Community Service Opportunities

Each Sacramento High School scholar is required to obtain 40 hours of community service each school year with a total of 160 hours upon graduation.  

Below is a list of community service opportunities for scholars to select from.

Friday Night Peace Walks

Please join the Greater Sacramento Urban League, the Oak Park community, community leaders, Black Child Legacy Campaign leads, the faith community, elected officials and other concerned citizens in the Oak Park Walk for Peace on this Friday and every Friday there after. Yes, every Friday we will walk in Oak Park to stop violence and to support a thriving community that works for everyone. We need you to join us and help us make a difference in our community, our City and our County.

Walk 4 Literacy

St. HOPE is sponsoring a team of walkers to participate in the 4th Annual Walk 4 Literacy event taking place on Saturday, October 21. 

The literacy crisis in Sacramento threatens to drastically impact this generation of children, their future and the future of our city.  Sacramento’s literacy crisis requires bold action and massive public awareness. 

Our goal is to help every child reach grade-level reading. The Walk4Literacy is a collaborative project. Join us!

Oak Park Fix-it Cafe

The Oak Park Neighborhood Association is looking for a few Sac High students who can assist with serving snacks, the kid’s korner, face painting, and in the repair areas such as bike repair and sewing!

Join the Oak Park neighbors who need:
- help fixing and maintaining their bicycles
- help mending garments
- learning to sew
- and, help repairing their broken lamps!

Light refreshments will be provided!

St. HOPE Storage Cleanup

St. HOPE Community Development Office is looking for volunteers to help organize two large storage units behind the 40 Acres Art Gallery.

Volunteers will be sorting items to be recycled, kept and shredded. May be required to lift boxes, load vehicles and move items to nearby dumpsters.

Guild Theater Cleanup Day

St. HOPE is looking for students to assist in cleaning storage closets inside of the historical Guild Theater. Closets contain things such as old microphones, wiring, theater flyers and programs. Items need to be organized and/or donated/thrown away. Students will be required to lift boxes/bins, sweep, vacuum and/or wipe things down. 

 

ATTIRE:

1. Sac High Polo, Spirit/Athletic Shirt

2. Khaki Pants, Athletic pants/sweats

3. Tennis shoes (that can get dirty)

Announcement

McClatchy Park Cleanup

Come out to help cleanup the largest park in Oak Park.  St. HOPE has partnered with AAA Insurance and the Oak Park Neighborhood Association to form one of the largest cleanup projects in Oak Park. 

Over 80 people will be working together to pick-up trash, rake the baseball field, wipe down the play structures and assist with other minor landscaping projects to provide a safe and clean space for the entire community. 

More than 40 Sac High students are needed to assist with this project.  Each student will be partnered with an adult.
