Walkin 4 A Cause

Pipeline Newsletter

For the second year in a row, a group of Sac High students and staff participated in the annual Walk 4 Literacy event sponsored by the Sacramento Library Authority. The 3-mile walk, which begins at McClatchy Park in Oak Park, meanders through different neighborhoods, past the State Capitol and ends with a festival at Cesar Chavez Plaza across from City Hall.

The group of mostly 10th grade students who participated in the event received community service credit hours, but received much more than that through the rewarding experience of being part of a greater cause.

The Walk 4 Literacy brings awareness to the literacy crisis in Sacramento that threatens to drastically impact this generation of children, their future and the future of our city. From the 2017 Walk 4 Literacy, $7,200 was to be granted to local programs positively impacting children’s literacy in Sacramento. To date, $37,200 has been granted back to community organizations helping children reach grade-level reading. The goal is to help every child reach grade-level reading.
