Senior Signing Day

Article

Sac High seniors from the Class of 2017, joined by their families and other supporters, came together for the fifth annual Senior Signing Day Event on May 26th. This is one of Sac High’s showcase events and allows graduating scholars a platform to proclaim to the rest of the student body, as well as PS7 and Oak Park Prep students, where they will be attending college following graduation. Each student had a moment in the spotlight to share their next step in the journey of higher education, and then signed agreements, with their respective famiies, to attend and complete their college degrees. The annual event serves as a celebration of four years of hard work and a farewell to Sac High from the graduates.

College Counselor David Marks is the lead staff member on coordinating Senior Signing Day and is excited each year to honor our students. Marks commented, “Not only does the event allow seniors to celebrate their success, but it allows the school community to celebrate with them.” He also noted that having the middle school students present helps them realize that they also can attend college after high school. Activities Director Nina Barringer was impressed by how many guests attended and appreciated the attention shown to our students.

The Class of 2017 features students attending top schools in California, such as UC Berkeley, UCLA, Sac State, Stanford, and USC, among others. Scholars are also headed to HBCUs like Howard, Hampton, and Morehouse. The event also highlighted the many students earning scholarships and a few students like Tariq Hollandsworth, Maya Lawrence, and Sasha Brown who are off to UNLV, UC Merced, and CSU Long Beach on athletic scholarships.

Congratulations, Class of 2017!
