What is your commitment to urban education and why have you chose to work at SHPS?

My commitment is to make a difference in urban education, because I believe all children deserve an equal and fair education to help them reach their full potential no matter their background or ethnicity. I strive to provide a rigorous educational environment and hold students to high expectations that will lead to their success. I choose to work at PS7 because the staff here are dedicated to providing the best education to all of their students. PS7 has some of the hardest working teachers I’ve ever seen and I am supported to help support my students and become the best educator I can be.

What are your greatest highlights in working in education?

My greatest highlights in working in education are the little things I get to witness everyday: the minute a class masters an objective, the moment a scholar reaches their goal, the silent celebrations of small successes, the countless times a scholar has been working so hard to fix their work and finally gets the correct answer. It’s the smiles on my scholars’ faces when they are genuinely excited to walk into class and ready to tackle whatever is thrown at them. It’s the sigh of relief after a stressful week, that is all made worth while when you witness a scholars’ confidence grow each and every day because they are a part of  your classroom and they know they are cared for and loved.

What book ( fiction or non-fiction) has influenced you the most?

The book that has influenced me the most throughout my journey into teaching would probably be “Holler If You Hear Me”. This book helped to fuel my passion for urban education and made me realize that I wanted to teach to make a difference. This showed me the important of building relationships with my scholars and showing them that I genuinely care about the.
