National Association Black Bookstores Launches

  We are thrilled to announce that the National Association of Black
  Bookstores (NAB2) has officially launched, becoming the
  first national organization dedicated to supporting Black-owned
  bookstores. NAB2 was founded by Mayor Kevin Johnson in honor of
  his mom, Mother Rose, who founded Underground Books in 2003 and
  passed away in December 2024.
NAB2 is a membership-based organization dedicated to promoting literacy, amplifying Black voices, and preserving Black culture. The organization’s board is composed of both veteran owners of long-established bookstores and newer booksellers who have opened their stores more recently. The focus areas of NAB2 include:
- Elevate and advance the Black bookstore community by
  providing professional resources, visibility and a community of
  fellowship;

- Increase the number of Black Americans in the bookstore /
  bookselling industry, by supporting their long-term financial
  sustainability;

- Leverage economies of scale to benefit existing and future
  Black bookstores and booksellers;

- Serve as a voice for Black bookstores and booksellers and
  advocate on their behalf; and

- Cultivate understanding and education about the history and legacy of Black bookstores in the United States.
You can become a member and read more about the launch of NAB2 in the Literary Hub.
