Glimmers of HOPE at the Turkey Day Giveaway

Post

On Monday, November 21st, the St. HOPE Family gathered together for a morning of service at the Sacramento Food Bank and Family Services where the team aided in a successful turkey distribution that provided over 4,000 turkeys to needy families in the Oak Park and Sacramento community.

The Food Bank collected a total of 14,837 turkeys during their annual drive. Beyond the 4,000 turkeys distributed in Oak Park, the rest were shared with SFBFS food partner agencies and distributed to other families in need throughout Sacramento County. Each family received one turkey in a reusable tote bag. Families also were given two bags of side dishes, which included potatoes, stuffing, rice, beans, canned vegetables, soup, gravy, pasta, sauce and fruit.

This year, HOPEsters were up early packaging the turkeys for pick up, helping neighbors carry out their bags, and spreading Thanksgiving cheer. St. HOPE Staff Accountant, Kristen Martin-Carter commented, “Beyond packaging turkeys, it was really great to be out in the community helping our neighbors alongside other local organizations”. While this was our first time helping with the turkey distribution, we hope to make it an annual Thanksgiving tradition! A huge thanks goes out to Sacramento Food Bank and Family Services for putting on such an excellent event.
