Curtains Up at the Guild Theater

If you haven’t been to the Guild Theater – you are missing out! We were honored that the Guild Theater was recently featured in the Sacramento Observer. The article, Sacramento’s Guild Theater Has Showcased Black Culture For 110 Years, describes the theater’s history and legacy of bringing culturally relevant entertainment to our community.

As the article noted, the Guild has hosted many high profile guests throughout the years including Olympian Allyson Felix, actor Jay Ellis, civil rights activist Al Sharpton, actress Jada Pinkett Smith, basketball great Isiah Thomas, and Martin Luther King III.

In fact, just last week the rock group Deftones hosted their record release party at The Guild Theater! Before they rose to fame, the Deftones performed at the Guild in the early 1990s and they wanted to come back and celebrate their new album release in the very place where their journey began.

There are so many events at the Guild theater for the community to enjoy. On October 7-12, we are hosting the annual Oak Park Black Film Festival which features six days of powerful storytelling, visionary filmmakers, and vibrant community connections.

As we wrap up National Black Business Month, I also want to highlight Underground Books which was featured in the Sacramento Bee as a local business to support. Underground Books has an amazing collection of books authored by Black writers who share stories that are often overlooked and the connected 40 Acres market offers unique specialty items that make great gifts.

In community,
