Aray’aSunshine (Araya) Hamilton’s journey with St. HOPE Public Schools began early. She started at PS7 Middle School in 6th grade and graduated from Sac High in 2023.

During her time at Sac High, Araya was involved in both academics and student life. She played basketball as a freshman, volunteered with clubs and groups, assisted in the Dean’s office, and supported her peers as both a counselor and tutor. Her willingness to step up and help others quickly became a defining part of her high school experience.

After graduation, Araya attended UC Riverside and later found her passion working with young students. She currently serves as a support coach and mentor for children in grades K–6 and will soon begin a new role as a teacher’s assistant with City Year, an organization that has partnered with St. HOPE for many years.

Outside of work, Araya lives a life centered on faith and creativity. She spends time making music, rapping, singing, and writing poetry as well as journaling, studying the Bible, and enjoying the outdoors. She also creates content across multiple social media platforms and expresses her artistic side as a loctician, specializing in natural hair and braids.

Reflecting on her time at Sac High, Araya credits the support system of teachers, deans, and staff for preparing her for life after graduation. She remembers how no student was ever left out when it came to joining a club, attending sports nights, or even participating in memorable events like the Prom Expo. “The staff always supported us, not just academically but emotionally,” she recalls.

Her advice to current and future students is heartfelt: “Allow God to lead you and do not follow the crowd. Have love and compassion for yourself and those around you. Give yourself grace during hardships, and don’t let struggles define you. Stay present, focus on the positive, and keep your heart and mind aligned with faith and hope.”
